Our Client, an independent chartered Trust company that provides beneficiaries with exceptional trust administration and customer service, is looking for a Director of Personal Trust Services to add to their team.

The Director of Personal Trust Services reports to the Chief Fiduciary Officer of the Company and serves as a manager and member of the leadership team working to grow the business's revenues, assets and reputation. The Director must be a self-starter and highly motivated to fulfil his or her special responsibility to build the company's reputation as a highly expert and unquestionably ethical professional fiduciary. The Director serves as a thoughtful role model for others in demonstrating the Company's values and mission.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Carefully manages assigned Trust Officers and Trust Administrators to ensure that expert and professional service is provided to trust clients. Sets and maintains client service levels.
  • Ensures that each fiduciary appointment is administered according to the trust agreement and in compliance with all Company policies and procedures, applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Assists in the new business development process by responding to inquiries from financial consultants, third party contacts, and private individuals regarding both current and future trust prospects. Aids New Business Officers and Case Management Officers including participating in prospecting exercises, prospect meetings and other activities as needed.
  • Administers a select group of trust accounts.
  • May serve as, or substitute for, the Chair of the Trust Committee or serve as a Chair for a Sub-Committee. Responsibilities may include leading or supporting a discussion on new trust acceptance recommendations, discretionary distributions or purchases, and/or ongoing administrative practices.
  • Facilitates a seamless hand-off of new trust accounts from the Case Management Group to the assigned trust officer, ensures timely delivery of trust tax letters to clients and their accountants, ensure annual administrative account reviews are performed timely for all open trust accounts, oversees the timely preparation of required court accountings, provides over-sight of data and information collection relating to audits, monitor client complaints and the Watch List helping to resolve problems, directs officers in the professional, timely and gracious process of closing accounts and trust terminations.
  • Participates in other tasks or special projects as assigned.

Human Resource Responsibilities:

  • Recruits and develops talented individuals needed to meet the Company's business goals.
  • Manages assigned personnel in all facets of their employment. Makes client account assignments, sets workload levels and performance standards and tasks employees with other responsibilities as necessary.
  • Ensures that Trust Officers and Trust Administrators receive the appropriate training. Coaches, trains and inspires employees thereby continually enhancing employee's skills and building a pipeline of candidates for promotion.
  • Sets professional performance and growth goals for each employee on an individual basis. Allocates decision making authority and empowers employees so that the business goals of the Company are efficiently and professionally achieved. Ensures completion of realistic, constructive annual performance reviews for all employees on the assigned Personal Trust Services team.
  • Manages work schedules, approves Paid Time Off and works with the Human Resources Manager to promote a professional, healthy and pleasant work environment.
  • Counsels employees whose performance does not meet standards or behavior violates the Company's Employee Handbook. In collaboration with Senior Management and Human Resources engages in performance planning exercises, issues verbal or written warnings or terminates unsuccessful employees.

Job Requirements

  • Must have experience in the administration of Settlement, Directed Trusts and/or Wealth Management Accounts. Extensive knowledge of Settlement Trust negotiation and funding, trust planning techniques, familiarity with most estate planning techniques, personal tax and financial planning.
  • Will be qualified with a Bachelor's degree, ten years of experience in trust administration, five years in management and the ability to travel on an as-needed basis.
  • Should be able to conceptualize solutions, promote alternatives, define objectives, assess probabilities, develop complex strategies, identify inconsistencies and manage through organizational and process changes.
